Best window

April–May, or late October when the stones cool

This week

Late summer is a glare. The Acropolis at opening or not at all. Afternoons are for Koukaki shade and a second coffee. The city eats at 21:00. Islands are a different ticket; do not fake them in Plaka.

Day paths

How it actually works

  • The stones store yesterday’s sun

Marble radiates. Walk 8–11 and 18–21. Midday is museums, lunch, and shutters. A hat is not optional in July. The Acropolis in the middle of the day is how people faint in public.

  • Plaka is not the Cyclades

If you want an island, take a boat. Do not spend the afternoon in a rooftop that sells the idea of one. Athens is a mainland capital with good food and political graffiti. Let it be that.

  • Cover and bread are not a scam by default

A small cover, bread, water: normal. A second bottle you did not order is not. Cash still helps in older tavernas. A smile and ‘the bill’ in Greek goes further than a card tap performed as a threat.
