This week
Late winter can be bright and sharp. The mountain makes its own weather; check it like a tide. Walk the Bowl and Sea Point. Do not treat the city as a continuous pavement — it isn’t. Move with a plan between neighbourhoods.
Neighbourhoods are walkable; the gaps between them are not a promenade. Plan the Bowl, Sea Point, Woodstock as separate walks. Use known transport. After dark, move with intent, not with a map app as a personality.
The Cape Doctor will cancel your summit
Southeaster in summer, wet northwest in winter. Cableway and trails close. That is not a failed day. Company’s Garden, a museum, a long lunch. Arguing with the mountain is how people get helicoptered.
Three languages in one doorway
English will get you fed. Afrikaans and isiXhosa are not decorations. A hello in the language in front of you is noticed. Bo-Kaap is a Muslim neighbourhood with a history; the paint is not a playground.
